India Stuns Nepal with Thrilling Win at Unity Cup 2025 Wheelchair Basketball Opener

Kathmandu, Nepal – India’s wheelchair basketball team started strong at the inaugural Unity Cup 2025, beating Nepal 60-51 in the opening match on Saturday. The intense game unfolded in Kathmandu, featuring fierce competition and inspiring athleticism from both teams.

India took an early lead in the first quarter, capitalizing on quick passes and solid defense. The team maintained pressure throughout the game, showcasing teamwork and resilience. Key players like Rohit Sharma and Aarti Singh stood out, combining for 40 points. Sharma scored 22 points, while Singh added 18, driving India ahead.

Nepal fought back in the second and third quarters, narrowing the gap with aggressive offense and strong rebounds. Captain Binod Tamang led Nepal with 20 points and crucial assists. Despite Nepal’s efforts, India’s defense remained tight, limiting Nepal’s shots and turnovers.

The fourth quarter saw both sides battling hard with multiple lead changes. However, India held firm in the final minutes, outscoring Nepal 15 to 10 to secure the nine-point victory. India’s coach praised the team’s focus and spirit. “Our players showed incredible heart today,” he said. “This win sets a positive tone for our campaign.”
