India’s Big Move to Dominate Global Sports Manufacturing Unveiled!

New Delhi, India – Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced a strong push to enhance India’s sports manufacturing during the Playcom Business of Sports Summit 2025. The event, held in New Delhi, highlighted the government’s plan to build a vibrant sports manufacturing ecosystem across the country.

Mandaviya emphasized the connection between robust manufacturing and sports excellence. “Developing homegrown sports equipment will boost our athletes’ performance and reduce reliance on imports,” he said. The initiative is closely linked with the government’s Khelo India scheme, which focuses on promoting sports talent from the grassroots level.

Key Goals of the Initiative

  • Increasing local production of quality sports gear
  • Creating jobs and stimulating innovation
  • Aligning manufacturing with India’s ambition to become a top global sports nation

At the summit, several industry leaders showcased cutting-edge sports technology and equipment made in India. This demonstration aimed to attract investments and collaborations to scale production.

Khelo India officials revealed that increased domestic manufacturing would improve access to affordable sports equipment for young athletes, helping uncover and nurture new talents across the country.

Support for Startups and Manufacturers

Mandaviya also announced plans for new policies to support startups and manufacturers involved in sports products. These include:

  1. Incentives
  2. Funding support
  3. Streamlined regulations

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports plans to closely monitor progress and share regular updates on the initiative’s impact on sports performance and job creation.

Sports analysts welcomed the move, noting that India’s sports sector has long depended heavily on imported gear. “Boosting local production can be a game changer for Indian athletes and the economy,” said one expert.

Fans and athletes expressed optimism, believing that better access to quality equipment will improve performances and increase chances in international competitions.

The government’s focus on sports manufacturing is expected to complement ongoing efforts such as infrastructure upgrades and talent development programs. With strengthened manufacturing, India aims to become a powerhouse in global sports.
