India Triumphs Over Australia to Reach Champions Trophy 2025 Final

india

March 5, Dubai: In a thrilling semi-final clash at the 2025 Champions Trophy, India defeated Australia by four wickets in Dubai, securing their place in the final. The victory was a collective effort, with KL Rahul’s composed finish and Virat Kohli’s masterful half-century steering India to a memorable win. This triumph was particularly significant as it came against an Australian side that has often haunted India in high-stakes matches in recent years.

Chasing 265, India got off to a shaky start, losing captain Rohit Sharma (28) and Shubman Gill early. However, Kohli and Shreyas Iyer stabilized the innings with a 91-run partnership. Iyer’s dismissal of a brilliant delivery from Adam Zampa briefly halted India’s momentum, but Kohli continued to anchor the chase. Hardik Pandya’s explosive cameo of 28 off 24 balls, including a barrage of sixes, brought India closer to victory. Although Kohli fell against the run of play, Rahul ensured there were no further hiccups, finishing the chase with surgical precision.

Earlier, Australia posted 264 after being bowled out in their 50 overs. Despite a strong start from Travis Head (39) and a gritty half-century from Steve Smith (77), India’s bowlers staged a remarkable comeback. Mohammed Shami (3/48) led the charge, supported by Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja, who kept the Australian batsmen in check. Smith’s innings were crucial, but his dismissal by Shami triggered a collapse, with Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey failing to capitalize on their starts.

The match also reignited the debate over the Zing bails, as Smith survived a close call when the bails refused to dislodge despite the ball hitting the stumps. However, India’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, including a direct hit from Iyer to run out Carey, ensured Australia fell short of a competitive total.

India will now face either New Zealand or South Africa in the final on Sunday, aiming to clinch their second Champions Trophy title. This victory not only avenged past heartbreaks against Australia but also showcased India’s resilience and depth in high-pressure situations.
