Lausanne, Switzerland hosted an electrifying men’s pole vault final at the 2025 World Athletics Wanda Diamond League on Thursday. The event, held at the iconic Stade Olympique de la Pontaise, featured the world’s top vaulters competing for crucial points in the Diamond League standings.

The competition proved intense from the start. Defending champion Armand Duval of France opened with a clean clearance at 5.70 meters. However, it was the surprising performance of Finland’s Mikael Korhonen that captured the spotlight. Korhonen steadily advanced with successful jumps at 5.65, 5.75, and 5.85 meters, setting a personal best and electrifying the crowd.

Korhonen then attempted a height of 6.00 meters, which would break the world season best. Despite a valiant effort, he failed all three attempts amid loud applause and cheers.

Post-event, Korhonen said, “I am thrilled with today’s performance. Breaking my personal best and setting a meet record means the world to me. This is just the beginning.” Novak expressed disappointment but remained optimistic about upcoming meets.

With this win, Korhonen gains significant points toward the Diamond League final qualification. The event also showcased emerging talents, hinting at a fiercely competitive season ahead.
