India Shines at 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championships

India showcased a remarkable performance at the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan, securing one silver and two bronze medals. Lalit was the standout athlete, winning silver in the 55kg Greco Roman category with exceptional technical skill and perseverance. His success marked a notable milestone for Indian Greco Roman wrestling, a discipline where India is aiming to strengthen its presence.

Additionally, Sunil Kumar and Nitesh each won bronze medals in their respective weight categories:

  • Sunil Kumar – Bronze in the 74kg freestyle division, achieved through intense repechage rounds.
  • Nitesh – Bronze in the 87kg freestyle category after a competitive bronze medal match.

The championship brought together top wrestling talent from across Asia, offering valuable experience and ranking points in preparation for the upcoming World Championships. Coach Rajiv Kumar praised the efforts of the wrestlers, stating, “Our wrestlers showed great heart and skill. These medals are a testament to their hard work and the support they have back home.”
